Dr. Michel J. Canis, MD, PhD, is a distinguished figure in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, specializing in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. He serves as a Professor at Clermont-Ferrand Centre Hospitalier Universitaire in Clermont-Ferrand, France. In addition to his clinical role, Dr. Canis is the Director of a CNRS Research Unit on Computer Vision and Endoscopy at the Pascal Institute of Clermont Ferrand Auvergne University.

Within the AAGL (American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists), Dr. Canis has held several leadership positions. He served as Vice President in 2022  and as President in 2024. During his presidency, he emphasized making minimally invasive surgery accessible to all, promoting ecological and economic sustainability in surgical practices, and educating about and combating violence against women.

Dr. Canis also chaired the Scientific Program Committee for the 52nd AAGL Global Congress held in November 2023 in Nashville, Tennessee. The congress focused on the theme "Sustainability in Surgery: Paving the Way Together," highlighting the importance of sustainable practices in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.

Throughout his career, Dr. Canis has been a strong advocate for innovation and international collaboration in gynecologic surgery, contributing significantly to the advancement of minimally invasive techniques and improving women's health globally.
