Abstract:
Endometriosis is a serious, chronic disorder affecting up to 1 in 10 girls and women. The debilitating pain of endometriosis impedes a woman’s potential to thrive personally and professionally. Diagnosis takes >10 years due to lack of a non-invasive diagnostic test. There is no cure and the cause of endometriosis is unknown. There is an urgent unmet need to improve outcomes for women/girls with endometriosis. Menstrual blood contains endometrial stem/progenitor cells thought to be implicated in endometriosis pathology. This study will enable us to determine novel pathways involved in the etiology of endometriosis, with potential translational implications for diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
