Our mission is to increase endometriosis awareness, fund landmark research, provide advocacy and support for patients, and educate the public and medical community.
March is Endometriosis Awareness Month and the author of a new book has a message for those who suffer from the disorder: you are not alone, your pain is real, and there is hope.
The book, The Doctor Will See You Now: Recognizing and Treating Endometriosis, is authored by Dr. Tamer Seckin, who is a founder of the Endometriosis Foundation of America (Endofound) along with Padma Lakshmi, who is host of the popular Bravo Series Top Chef. Padma, who is also one of Dr. Seckin’s patients wrote the following in the foreword for the book, “We can do something about endometriosis. If you have this disease or think you might have it, The Doctor Will See You Now is a good place to start your road to recovery.”
Dr. Seckin’s goal for the book is simple, he “hopes that every woman and young girl who has endometriosis will finally get correctly diagnosed and appropriately treated for this debilitating disease.”
The Doctor Will See You Now tells the stories of 23 courageous women who have endometriosis.
“These stories are meant to empower and show women they are not alone in their struggles with this disease as well as provide the knowledge and confidence so they can advocate for themselves and others as together we create a long over-due awareness about this dreadful disease,” said Dr. Seckin.
The Doctor Will See You Now is written at a level that everyone with ties to endometriosis can relate to and understand, but it is also for doctors with good intentions who lack the knowledge of how to diagnose or treat it.
The book’s inspiring text is purposefully crafted so that every reader can relate and understand endometriosis not only medically, but also emotionally. That includes every woman and young girl who has it, and the women and men in their lives – the mothers, fathers, partners, children, and friends – who know something is wrong, but do not know what it is or what to do about it.
